EPE asked New Mexico regulators for a $70.4 million base-rate increase, phased in January and October 2027, plus a low-income discount and a peak-time rebate pilot. The PRC puts the average household increase at $15.01 and then $26.81 a month. Residents at a June 2026 public hearing objected to the size of the increase, KFOX14 reported. An evidentiary hearing was set for Sept. 21 to Oct. 2, 2026.

A temporary surcharge recovers the difference between old and new Texas base rates for usage from July 1, 2025 until the new rates began May 1, 2026. For residential customers it is $0.01924 per kWh for 12 months starting with August 2026 bills, collecting a class balance of $48,959,313. The PUCT found the revised tariff compliant in July 2026.
